First New Etsy Listing This Year

Posted on

Happy New Year!

Here’s to starting the year right and to toast the new year, here is my first new Etsy Listing.

I don’t have many men’s accessories, but I’d love to here your thoughts on this one.  I initially made this custom for a good crafty/geeky friend of mine and he loved it so much, I thought others should have a chance to get their hands on this little cumulus!  (Personalize it for a special touch!)

Now that we are almost two weeks in, how did you toast the new year?

Ficus feelings

Posted on

This might be an odd post to start back with, but I figured I should start somewhere.

I’ve heard people say that plants embody your emotions.  They show, physically, how you feel emotionally.  If that is true, my ficus really gets it.  This is pretty much what I feel like after having 4 miscarriages in just over a year.  The last one just  a month ago, yesterday.

FicusToday happens to be a fairly good day.  I’m still holding onto a little high from Sunday, when I sang in my first choral concert in almost a decade.  I really missed singing.  I’ve actually gotten some things accomplished as well, which is more than I can say for most of 2014.  I took this cute picture of my little Lacey with my new dslr camera:

Lacey Lou

I got my first new listing up on Etsy since early December.  I used to get a new listing up almost everyday or at least one a week, but motivation has simply waned.  I am also cooking some chickpeas and getting the laundry done today, but this statement from this pin is how I feel most of the time…

Sorry to be a downer, but when you are at the bottom you have to start from somewhere and I figure sharing my struggles is the first step to leaving the emotional cave I’ve gone into.

I know there are many who have gone through similar situations.  Please feel to share any stories in the comments.

All over Etsy it’s Christmas in July

Posted on

A few days ago, I announced my own Christmas in July sale on Etsy, but I wanted to make sure that you are aware that there are many, many more Etsy shops that are offering Christmas in July deals from discounts, to free shipping to BOGO deals and more.  Visit Etsy and search cij or christmasinjuly to find everything.  Add extra keywords to narrow your search.  For example, type in “cij monkey” to find monkey related handmade and vintage items on sale.

This morning I made a treasury with only shops with Christmas in July sales going on.  Enjoy!  Make sure to visit them all.

Christmas in July Sale!

Posted on

First… a small apology for about 3 months in missing posts!  I finished up my Master’s Degree in May, and I guess I just needed a break.  The month before graduation, I was doing so much writing I thought my head would explode and I figured that it was better to keep my brains intact and return to blogging when it felt right.  Thanks for not unfollowing me in the mean time.

Now for the excitement.  It is time for McCloud Designs Biggest Sale of the Year!  July 12-22, loads of Etsy sellers (including me!) will be reducing prices.  This is the first time that I am participating in the Christmas in July Sale and Boy, am I excited.  So excited that everyone will have access to 15% off all items in my shop and my Facebook fans will have access to close to 25% off!  That is right… I said 25% off*.  If you are not a McCloud Designs Facebook Fan, head over there now so that you don’t miss out on the extra discount.

*Here is how it will work.  All items in my shop will be marked down the 15% tomorrow (7/11/12), late, late at night which may involve some sort of energy drink on my part.  Anyone can take advantage of those discounts.  As a special ‘thank you’ to my Facebook fans throughout the sale, I will post a coupon code for an extra 10% off which will bring your savings very close to 25% off.

What does this mean in terms of handmade jewelry for you or your loved ones.  Here is an example.

This lovely handmade Lapis Lazuli Necklace normally sells for $98.00. With the normal 15% off it is down to $83.30. With the extra coupon code for Facebook fans this necklace would be only $74.97 (plus very reasonable shipping).

This means that just by being a Facebook fan you can save $23.03 on this stunning necklace.  All you have to do is click a little button that says “like” at McCloud Designs Facebook page and then watch for my posts and that $23.03 is yours to keep.

Let’s try another one…

These spunky Green Glass Earrings are normally $10 (already a super inexpensive handmade gift, right?) With the 15% off it brings them down to $8.50, plus with the coupon code from Facebook, you’ll receive another 10% off for a total of $7.65 (plus shipping).

If you’ve purchased those two items, you’ve saved $25.38.  If you like saving money, leave a comment on this post with ideas of what you can do with an extra $25.38.

Still need more encouragement…

These stunning Polymer Clay and Sterling Silver Leaf Earrings regularly sell for $25.00. With 15% off it brings them down to $21.25. Then enter the 10% off coupon code that you get just for being a Facebook fan and they will cost you only $19.13 (plus shipping).

Now you’ve bought three gifts or three additions to your own jewelry collection and have saved $31.25.

Here are some of my suggestions for what to do with that $31.25.

*Purchase more great McCloud Designs.

*Purchase sale items from other great Etsy shops doing Christmas in July sales (visit Etsy and search for CIJ or Christmasinjuly to find other participating shops)

*Put it in the bank.

*Save it for a fun trip.

*Donate it to your favorite charity.

*Get a pet turtle (or several pet turles, perhaps).

What would you do with an extra $31.25?

Sale starts July 12, 2012 and will end at midnight on July 22, 2012.  Visit my shop now to pick out your favorite Handcrafted Motivating Jewelry.

Where am I going to put all of these?

Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now. – Alan Lakein, writer

I’m at a point in my business where I don’t go through much packaging for shipping, but I want to be prepared for the future that I want.  Of course I’d like to sell more frequently in my Etsy Shop, so I am trying to plan for that.  So, I purchased a case of 250 bubble mailers.

This many may last me quite a long time and right now I am searching for a place to keep them.  However, just like I went through the initial 2 packs of 25 faster than expected, I imagine that I will be buying more before I know it.  Bring on the sales… I’m ready for it!

Another goal is for my business to be one where I’m taking less and giving more, environmentally.  So what I’m really excited about is that my new packaging is compostable, biodegradable and recyclable.  I also recently started purchasing from suppliers that sell recycled silver as well.

What do you foresee in your future?  How will you plan today?  How do you reduce your carbon footprint?

Wrinkly and Perfect

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead. Louisa May Alcott

I’ve been gone for a few weeks.  Sorry.  I recently became an Aunt and I may be the proudest Aunt there ever was.  As this new little man has entered our lives, I’ve been contemplating the kind of person he’ll become.  I’m sure it will greatly depend on the people he is around.  This drives me more than ever to continue in the direction of my dreams.  It makes me want to work hard and accomplish my goals so that he can have one more great example of a life filled with success.  By success, I mean a life filled with wonderment, happiness, motivation, nature and most of all love.

While hiking this weekend, I had a little thought while admiring brand new leaves sprouting onto a branch.  When we are born, we are fresh and vibrant and a little wrinkly, but perfect.

With good examples from neighboring trees and branches (Mothers, fathers, Aunts, Uncles, etc.) look what we can grow up to be!

I’m so excited to see the path that this new little branch of our family tree will take.
